What it is

A bath starts at the drain

A basement bath depends on where the drain sits. If it is deep enough, the toilet drains to it. If not, a pump lifts the waste.

We break the slab where the drain goes, set the drain and the vent, pour the slab back and frame the room. A licensed plumber does the pipe work and it is inspected.

  • Slab cut and set back

  • A vent that goes to the roof or ties to an existing vent

  • A vented fan that moves air outside

What changes the number

What moves the price

  • Drain depth

A deep drain means no pump. A high one needs a pit.

  • Pump

An ejector pit adds a pit, a pump and a vent.

  • Slab

More concrete to break, more to patch.

  • Room size

A half bath is a toilet and a vanity; a full bath adds a shower.

  • Vent

Tying to an existing vent costs less than a new run to the roof.

  • Fixtures

Fixtures are your choice and price.

Permits and rules

Plumbing permits

Plumbing in Wisconsin is done under a plumbing license and inspected. Our plumber pulls the plumbing permit and we pull the building permit.

A basement bath also needs a vent and a way to move moist air outside. We put both on the quote.

Questions about this job

Can I add a bath if my drain is above the floor?

Yes, with an ejector pit and pump. It adds cost, and we show it as its own line.

Will the basement smell?

A sealed pit with a vent does not. We show you the vent before we close the wall.

Can you add a laundry too?

A washer box and a drain go in the same trench. It's usually cheaper to do both at once.

Can you do a shower?

Yes. A shower pan is waterproofed before tile goes on, and we test it with water.
